These are such a fun school holiday activity to do at home with the kids in the kitchen! It's cheap because there aren't a lot of ingredients, and it's quick as only mixing is required. Some adult help is needed because of the stove, and a hot jug when pouring.
Put some water onto boil in the saucepan. It needs to be about 5cm deep, enough to come up to the height of what's in your jug. At your bench, pour the water into the pyrex jug, and add the flavoured jelly crystals and the gelatine powder. Stir to combine. It may be lumpy.
Place the jug into the boiling water and start stirring the jelly mix so that the sugar dissolves. This usually takes a few minutes. Take the saucepan off the heat and carry to a safe place (eg. pot holder) on the bench or the drainer beside the sink. You may need a mit or a towel to hold the handle of the jug as it is hot. Let the mixture cool a little.
Add a few drops of essential oil. Stir in. You may like to put your moulds on a tray so that the jellies don't spill when you pick up the moulds to put them in the fridge. Pour your mixture into the moulds and transfer them to the fridge to set.
Set your timer for 20 minutes. Pop out the gummies and eat! I made Lemon Lime Gummies.
